You cant buy an item from a trader and resell it for a higher price, when the price is higher. The game remembers the ingame price of an item at the moment it is 'created'. So if you buy a Rune of Sup Abs for 100g, you can only sell it back for 100g. This is also the same reason why some items of the same kind and stats sell for different prices. At the time when they dropped or were bought, their rarity differed.

At least thats my observations so far. For instance I could sell a Ranger Rune of Minor Expertise for 3 TOTALLY different prices at the same merchant at the same time. Thats my explanation for this observation. Game remembers rarity and embeds this in the item's code.

So it's impossible to stock up with runes and sell them later when their value is higher?? How LAME.

I sold a sup absorb to the trader the other day and it wasn't in stock right afterwards, so I think the trader is broken. However I was only offered about 25 gold for it, until I used an ID kit on the rune and the price went up to about 200 gold.

Actually, it's that the trader will never buy below merchant price, so if the merchant price is higher than the trader would like to offer, it offers the merchant price instead. The merchant price, as far as I've ever seen, is random within a range defined by the item's rarity, and is determined at item creation.

On to the rune problem. The issue here is that Superior Absorption (in this case) isn't actually in high demand. It's in low demand. However, nobody's selling any to the trader, so it still doesn't have any.

Here's an example: Let's say people buy 1,000 Superior Protection runes a day, and sell to it 800 per day. Let's say they buy 100 Superior Absorption runes per day and sell to it 80. In both cases, the trader runs out in the same time, but Protection runes are in significantly higher demand and (rightfully) have a higher price.

The current method also prevents players exploiting the system by holding out on selling. If the price is based solely on buying rate, it becomes impossible to force the price higher by simply holding out on your runes. It is more beneficial to sell the ones you don't need, rather than holding on to them, which in theory keeps the trader stocked.

The problem is that in many cases the merchant offers a higher price for runes, particularly superior runes still in their monster armor, than the rune trader would offer. Thus, it is more beneficial to merchant those runes, and so the trader ends up running out of stock even on runes that sell a handful per day (and have a low price as a result).

Even if people are trying to sell at that price, nobody is going to be buying. They might as well be spamming WTS Sup absortion rune for 100k + 900 ectos. Either way, it doesn't change the actual "value" of an object if nobody buys it.

No, sup abs will never again be worth anything more the the 100g they currently (when in stock that is) sell for. At least not in their current form, ever since their nerf they are virtually useless.

Identifying an item will increase its merchant price, thus increasing what the trader will give you. For sup runes this increase is quite noticeable if you identify them again after salvaging.

Yesterday I went to sell a sup absorb to the trader and it appeared out of stock, and the trader only offered me 25g (lowest possible price ?). I ID'd the rune again and got an offer of about 180 gold from the trader so I sold to him. I immediately checked the stock again and it still appeared out of stock. So I really think that when ANET added the categories to the trader (didn't this start then ?) they introduced a bug hiding various runes.

Has anyone sent an email to support about this yet ?

May not be a bug. Could really just be that there is no supply. I know that every sup absorb rune I've found has either gone to koss/goren (and I only have so many koss/gorens...) or I've simply sold straight to the merch without salvaging. Do that with almost all runes/insignias actually. You get almost the same price anyway and it saves time. Hardly worth the effort for a few hundred gp's.
